A 29 year old, Abdulsalami Rauf is in dire need of the sum of N1.5 million to undergo brain operation.
The call for help was disclosed in a letter made available to Inclusive News Network by the Executive Director, Lionheart Ability Leaders International Foundation (LALIF), Mr. Solomon O. Okelola.
Okelola who is the founder of LALIF, in the letter appealed to the general public to kindly support Abdulsalami Rauf’s brain operation.
Narrating the incident, Mr. Okelola said Abdulsalami’s ordeal began in 2016 when he accidentally collapsed aground during a football match with fellow students at Oyo State Polytechnic where he originally intended to study mass communications.
“Abdulsalami was involved in an accident, he collapsed on the field and was rushed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where he spent 6 months in intensive care unit (ICU)
“After he was discharged from the University College Hospital, his father took him back home in Ikorodu, Lagos State, hoping he would recover and return to school
“However his condition steadily deteriorated to the point of losing sight and hearing. He was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja in October 2021 by the Executive Director, LALIF. By then, he had lost the use of both sight and hearing, and suffered from constant migraine headaches”
The letter further revealed that following series of tests and examinations, Abdulsalami was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis- a brain tumor which the doctor said had severely affected his optic nerve and cochlear cells, hence his loss of sight and hearing. The tumor was also said to be the cause of his constant migraine and recommended for removal via surgery before it deteriorates to brain cancer.
The initial cost of the surgery according to the Neurosurgeon is N1,500,000 (1.5 million naira) or approximately $3,615 (three thousand, six hundred and fifteen dollars).
All efforts by Abdulsalami’s father, Mr. Rauf Musa, a petty trader to raise the said amount proved abortive, hence the family’s resort to seek for kindhearted assistance and support from members of the public to save Abdulsalami.
