The Ekiti State Government has announced a vocational training programme for 120 persons with disabilities (PWDs), reinforcing its commitment to inclusivity and economic empowerment. Through the Office of Disability Affairs, the initiative aims to equip participants with practical skills that enhance self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship.
The training, set to commence on April 3, 2025, at the Ekiti State Skill Acquisition Centre, will cover fields such as ICT, tailoring, hairdressing, shoemaking, catering, and business management. Participants will benefit from expert-led instruction and hands-on experience in a conducive learning environment.
According to Princess Agboola Adetoun, Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s vision is to move beyond short-term aid and empower PWDs with long-term economic opportunities. She encouraged eligible individuals to take advantage of the programme.
Running in two batches over nine months, the training includes a three-month industrial attachment. Upon completion, participants will receive trade certificates and starter kits to facilitate their transition into employment or entrepreneurship. Residency requirements may apply, and accommodation will be available for those from distant areas.
