Eid-el-Kabir: Kano Government Donates Food Items, Rams To PWDs, 13 Rehabilitation Centers

Kano State Government has distributed food items and cows to persons with disabilities (PWDs) and 13 rehabilitation centres in the state.

Speaking during the donations, the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Baffa-Bichi, explained that the gesture was an annual event to host PWDs, to ensure that they do not feel isolated during the Sallah celebration.

The food items distributed include: Rice, vegetable oil, cows, rams as well as cash gifts, which the Governor said was meant to enable them “buy firewood and cooking ingredients.

The beneficiaries are: Emir of the Deaf, Emir of the Blind, and Emir of the Lepers, among others, alongside their chiefs from the five emirates of Kano, Bichi, Karaye, Rano and Gaya.

Others are Chairmen and Secretaries association of Albino, blind and spinal cord association, among others.

According to him, the 13 rehabilitation centres for mentally ill persons include Dawakin Kudu, Gaya, Dorayi, two in Bichi, Danbatta, Minjibir, Wudil, Sumaila, Tudun Wada, Rano, Karaye and Shahuci.

“The centres under SEMA were designed to provide clinical services,psychological support and skill acquisition training for the disabled,” Governor Kabir-Yusuf said.

The Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Isyaku Abdullahi-Kubarachi, commended Governor Kabir-Yusuf for the gesture and advised residents of the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on water ways to avert flooding.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sarkin Makafi (Emir of the Blind), Alhaji Ado Halilu, commended the state government for the “kind gesture”, and promised to use the items judiciously.
