The capital city of Awka was bustling last Sunday as delegates of the Deaf Women Association of Nigeria (DWAN) stormed awka from all over the nation for their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and national Deaf women’s week with thanksgiving service commemorating the occasion which is being hosted for the first time in Anambra State, INN reports
According to the facebook message shared by the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Disability Matters, Mr Chuks Betrand Ezewuzie, the week-long activities began last Sunday with Thanksgiving service at Cathedral Church of St Faith awka. Mr Ezewuzie called on well-wishers to join them and take part in the programme to celebrate their women.
It could be recalled, INN gathered, that the Exco members of DWAN had earlier visited the Office of the Executive Governor on Disability Matters in preparation for the national conference. They were also received and hosted by Rt Rev Alexander Ibezim P.HD the Anglican bishop of awka diocese.
Live pictures from the Thanksgiving Service commemorating the commencement of the programme was produced and coordinated by Mr Collins Joseph who was appointed in April of 2017 to serve the Executive Governor Of Anambra State as Special Assistant On sign language communication.
The activities of the Deaf Women week continued yesterday, 10th April 2018, with city wide rolling rally/parade beginning at Federal science and technical college Awka and terminating at ABS radio and television premises where they expressed profound gratitude to the management and staff of ABS for providing adequate coverage for the Disability Community events.
The managing Director of ABS Nze Uche Nwaorah welcomed them to Anambra State. He stated that all Governors’ appointees and employees must work willingly and as hard as the one who trusted in them with the responsibility.He added that Chief Dr Willie Obiano has the interest of persons with Disabilities at heart and will expect nothing less from the good people of Anambra State.
In his speech, the secretary of the Anambra State chapter of the Joint National Association Of Persons With Disabilities, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke thank DWAN for the choice of Anambra State to host their National Conference.
