The Chairman of the Abia State Disability Commission, David Obinna Anyaele, has called for stronger collaboration between the Commission and the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to promote disability inclusion and reshape public narratives around persons with disabilities.
Anyaele made the call while receiving the Chairman and Executive Council members of the NIPR, Abia State Chapter, in his office during a courtesy visit.
Speaking during the meeting, Anyaele shared his personal journey in the field of Public Relations, recalling the discrimination he faced while studying the course in Lagos State. He said his passion, resilience, and determination enabled him to overcome the challenges and eventually become a chartered member of the profession.
According to him, his background in Public Relations has significantly strengthened his advocacy efforts, campaigns, and engagements aimed at promoting the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities across Nigeria.
He stressed the need for sustained awareness creation, advocacy, and public enlightenment campaigns to address discrimination, stigmatization, and exclusion still faced by many persons with disabilities in society.
The Commission’s chairman also highlighted some of the achievements and activities of the Commission, including the distribution of assistive devices, financial support programmes, leadership and entrepreneurship training, as well as empowerment initiatives targeted at persons with disabilities.
Earlier in her remarks, the Chairman of the NIPR, Abia State Chapter, Onyinyechi Ralph Nwachukwu, commended the warm reception accorded to the delegation by the Commission.
She said the visit reflected the Institute’s commitment to responsible leadership, inclusion, and ensuring that everyone has a voice in society.
Nwachukwu further praised the Abia State Disability Commission for its sustained efforts in promoting equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and strengthening partnerships that advance inclusion and social participation.
