Disability Commission, Federal Ministry of Health Deepen Collaboration for Inclusive Healthcare

by Inclusive News Network

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare have reinforced their partnership to advance disability-inclusive healthcare in Nigeria.

During a courtesy visit to Honourable Minister Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, NCPWD Executive Secretary Hon. Ayuba Gufwan emphasized the urgent need for sustained collaboration to improve healthcare access for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), particularly polio survivors and those in underserved communities.

“Achieving true inclusivity in healthcare requires deliberate action. By aligning our efforts and reinforcing disability-friendly policies, we can ensure that no Nigerian is left behind in accessing quality medical care,” said Hon. Gufwan.

Prof. Pate reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to equitable healthcare, highlighting efforts to deploy skilled health workers and extend life-saving interventions, including polio immunization, to even the most remote areas.

A key outcome of the meeting was a proposal to integrate the Certificate of Disability with the National Identification Number (NIN) to enhance policy implementation, streamline access to welfare benefits, and improve data accuracy.

This strategic collaboration signals a renewed commitment by both institutions to eliminate healthcare barriers and ensure a future where all Nigerians, regardless of ability, receive the care they deserve.

We PWD’s are campaigning for inclusive, yet. I think it’s also part of inclusive for ES to carry along the PWD’s in any MDA’s that he visit for recognition and brief of their encounter
