In line with the federal government’s resolve to build accountable and transparent structures in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Dr James David Lalu in conjunction with the Chairman Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN inaugurated and inducted the Anti-Corruption and Transparency (ACTU) Unit of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities recently in Abuja.
In his address, the Executive Secretary who was ably represented at the event by the Director Finance and Accounts Department of the Commission, Hajia Zainab Lawal stated that the Commission is working in tandem with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and as such will do it’s best to comply with all facets of Federal Government’s directives, thus it’s willingness to support the Anti-Corruption drive of the government.
“I understand that the constitution of ACTU here in NCPWD will support and strengthen the work of the staff of the Commission and enhance the Anti-Corruption movement of the government” he said.
Lalu further prevailed on the team to abide by all the the rules and tenets of their new responsibilities and be responsible at all costs. “Your deportment from this day onwards should be a credit to the State, you must endeavour to shun all vices and corruptible behaviours and let your language be exemplary” he said.
He thanked the Management of ICPC for the collaboration and pledged that the Commission under his watch will abide by all the rules and regulations that will allow progress for the present administration.
Earlier In his goodwill message, the Chairman of ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu SAN, who was represented by the Deputy Director System studies and Review, Mr. Clement Obayi stated that his office commends the ES for creating time for the inauguration and induction of the new members of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the Commission.
He further said that the new Unit will assist the management of the Commission in promoting a transparent workforce by effectively discharging its duties which includes conducting system study and Review of processes; conduct continuous sensitisation of staff on and against the ills of corruption.
“Develop and implement Code of Ethics; monitor budget implementation, implement the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard and undertake preliminary investigation into complaints received amongst others” he said
He also enjoined the newly inaugurated ACTU members to live above board, to exhibit exemplary honesty and integrity and to ensure that they are responsible and responsive in the exercise of their duties, to avoid any oppressive acts given the strategic role they are expected to play.
In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the the new ACTU team , Barrister Ikem Uchegbulam pledged their maximum commitments to their new roles and vowed to pursue it with condor and decorum, and to uphold their roles with integrity. He thanked the Executive Secretary for finding him and members of the team worthy to serve.
Present at the meeting were the Director Legal Services of the Commission, Barrister Joseph Okon, Mr. Carl Guruyen of the Human Resource Department and the Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, Mr. Moses Gyan.
