The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has donated assistive devices to persons with disabilities in Katsina State, reaffirming its commitment to inclusion and improved quality of life.
The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has distributed a range of assistive devices to persons with disabilities in Katsina State, in a move aimed at enhancing mobility, independence, and overall well-being.
The donation was facilitated through the Office of the Executive Governor of Katsina State by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan.
Speaking during the presentation, the Head of the Assistive Devices and Technology Unit, Dr. Ismail Idris, who represented the Executive Secretary, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities across the country.
Dr. Idris noted that the initiative is part of NCPWD’s broader mandate to eliminate barriers and promote inclusion in society.
“It is my desire that these assistive devices will go a long way in eliminating barriers and improving the lives of persons with disabilities in Katsina State,” he said on behalf of Hon. Gufwan. “As a Commission, our mission is to sustain an institution that promotes inclusion through advocacy and the protection of the rights of all persons with disabilities.”
Receiving the items on behalf of the Katsina State Government, the Special Adviser on Disability Matters, Hon. Umar Jibril Bindawo, who represented Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, commended the Commission for its dedication to the welfare of persons with disabilities nationwide.
He expressed the state government’s readiness to collaborate with the Commission in advancing disability inclusion.
“We thank the Executive Secretary and his team for the wonderful work they are doing for persons with disabilities nationwide, and we pledge our full support to the Commission in whatever way assistance may be needed,” Bindawo stated.
He further assured that the donated items would be distributed transparently to those who need them most, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
Items distributed during the event included elbow crutches, walking sticks, axillary (underarm) crutches, and sewing machines.
