Gombe, Nigeria – The Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities has extended heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill establishing the Federal College of Education (Special), Dukku — the second institution of its kind in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commission described the development as a significant milestone in the advancement of inclusive education, particularly in the training of teachers to cater to the needs of learners with disabilities across the North-East region.

The Commission also gave special recognition to Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed, the Member representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency, for sponsoring the bill. His unwavering commitment to disability-inclusive policies and quality education was praised as instrumental in achieving this legislative breakthrough.

Additionally, the Commission lauded the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for his ongoing support and dedication to inclusive development. It credited his leadership and investment in education for creating the enabling environment necessary for the establishment of the college.

The Commission reaffirmed its readiness to support the smooth takeoff of the new institution and reiterated its commitment to promoting inclusive access to education for persons with disabilities in Gombe State and beyond.
