The Chairman of the Abia State Commission for the Welfare of Disabled Persons, Dr. David Obinna Anyaele, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Abia State Government to promoting inclusion, empowerment, and improved welfare for persons with disabilities during separate courtesy visits by leaders of disability associations in the state.
The visits were made by the Nigeria Association of the Blind, led by Okwudiri Williams, and the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, led by Wisdom Kalu. The primary purpose of the visits was to formally introduce the newly elected executives of both associations to the Commission.
During the meeting, the associations commended the Commission for its continued distribution of assistive devices and sustained support for disability clusters across the state. They noted that the interventions have positively impacted the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities, while strengthening collaboration among disability groups.
In his remarks, Dr. Anyaele congratulated the newly elected officials and praised the unity and achievements recorded among disability clusters in Abia State. He encouraged members to embrace skill acquisition opportunities, actively participate in government programmes, and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He further assured the associations that the administration of Alex Chioma Otti remains committed to integrating disability inclusion into policy development, project implementation, and social welfare programmes, while urging them to submit proposals that will enhance the quality of life of their members.
