Yakubu Nazir Abdulhakeem, Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Office for Disability Affairs, has called for increased government action to support persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the state. The appeal coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated globally to raise awareness and promote the inclusion of PWDs in all aspects of society.
This year’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” emphasizes empowering PWDs to take on leadership roles and shape their communities. Speaking during the commemoration, Abdulhakeem urged Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to prioritize initiatives that uplift and empower the disabled community.
“Kogi State has always stood as a friend to persons with disabilities, but it’s essential to build on this legacy,” Abdulhakeem said. “By fostering an inclusive environment, we can create a society where everyone, regardless of ability, has equal opportunities to thrive.”
The Executive Secretary emphasized the importance of amplifying the voices of PWDs and ensuring their contributions are recognized. “With the Governor’s support, we can make Kogi State a beacon of inclusivity and sustainability. Let us unite to create a future where persons with disabilities are empowered to lead and contribute meaningfully to our collective progress.”
