The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing inclusive healthcare, education and independent living for persons with disabilities through strategic partnerships that expand access to assistive technologies and essential support services.
The commitment was reiterated during the public presentation of assistive and medical devices to disability groups in Lagos, organised by the BO Foundation for Inclusive Media (BOFIM). Representing the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, at the event was the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation and Orientation, Dr. Theresa Adekola.
The initiative brought together key stakeholders in the disability community to distribute a wide range of assistive devices and medical equipment aimed at improving the health, mobility and educational opportunities of persons with disabilities across Lagos State.
Items presented included a three-month supply of medication for children living with Cerebral Palsy (CP), talking electronic blood pressure monitors for persons with visual impairments, wheelchairs, accessible footballs designed for blind persons, tactile draft games for persons with visual impairments, and desktop computers donated to two schools to strengthen digital learning and improve educational outcomes for blind students.
As part of the programme, beneficiaries received practical demonstrations on the use of the talking blood pressure monitors, enabling them to independently monitor their blood pressure and encouraging better health management practices.
The beneficiaries included students of the Inclusive Unit of the Federal Government College, Ijanikin, members of the Nigeria Association of the Blind, students of the Divine International Solution Centre for the Blind, and other persons with disabilities from across Lagos State.
Speaking on behalf of the LASODA General Manager, Dr. Adekola applauded BOFIM, Mr. Michael Fadeyi, the Oliver Family and other collaborating partners for their sustained commitment to promoting disability inclusion through impactful interventions.
She noted that the donation of assistive devices and medical supplies aligns with the Lagos State Government’s vision of building a society where persons with disabilities have equal access to healthcare, education and opportunities for self-reliance.
Dr. Adekola further stressed that partnerships such as the one with BOFIM complement LASODA’s mandate of promoting accessibility, inclusive education, quality healthcare and independent living, while reaffirming the agency’s dedication to ensuring that no person with a disability is left behind in the state’s development agenda.
