In a strategic move to foster greater inclusivity and accessibility in Lagos State’s built environment, the General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, led senior officials of the Agency on an official visit to the headquarters of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) on Monday, May 6, 2025.
The visit aimed to initiate collaborative discussions on how to effectively integrate accessibility policies into physical planning and development processes across the state. It also sought to ensure that these policies are not only well-articulated but also practically implemented on the ground.
Speaking during the meeting, Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal emphasized that LASODA’s technical expertise on disability inclusion could guide LASPPPA in embedding accessibility features in all new developments. These features include accessible pathways, ramps, and other inclusive design elements that make public infrastructure more user-friendly for persons with disabilities (PWDs). She noted that this collaboration would significantly improve the quality of life for PWDs and foster equitable access to services and facilities for all Lagosians.
She further stressed the importance of ensuring that LASPPPA’s planning and permitting processes align with existing legal and regulatory frameworks that support accessibility and inclusion.
In response, the General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, expressed strong support for the proposed collaboration. He highlighted the agency’s commitment to integrating accessibility standards into all physical planning guidelines and processes. Tpl. Osinaike assured that LASPPPA would intensify efforts to monitor and enforce compliance with accessibility regulations, aiming to build a more inclusive and accessible Lagos for everyone.
