The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has trained 100 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in digital citizenship skills as part of efforts to promote digital inclusion and expand access to opportunities in the digital economy.
The two-day training, held from September 9 to 10, 2026, at The Cordis Hotel, Ashabi Cole Street, off Agidingbi Road, Alausa, Ikeja, focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills to navigate the digital environment safely, responsibly and effectively.
Representing the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, at the opening ceremony, the Head of Department, Monitoring, Evaluation and Orientation, Dr. Funmi Adekola, commended the NCC for deliberately including PWDs in its digital empowerment initiatives.
Adekola said the programme would contribute to advancing digital inclusion and ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind as technology continues to shape social and economic activities.
“We particularly commend the Nigerian Communications Commission for engaging stakeholders and ensuring that Persons with Disabilities are deliberately included in its digital empowerment agenda,” she said.
She also appreciated Fornido Development Limited for coordinating and delivering the training, expressing optimism that the knowledge acquired by participants would translate into tangible opportunities.
The training brought together 100 PWDs from across Lagos State and provided participants with relevant knowledge on digital citizenship, responsible online participation and effective use of digital platforms.
The programme also sought to enhance participants’ prospects in employment, entrepreneurship and broader socio-economic participation by strengthening their confidence and competence in the digital space.
At the conclusion of the training, participants received certificates in recognition of their successful completion of the programme.
The initiative underscores the growing importance of accessible digital skills in promoting equal opportunities and enabling Persons with Disabilities to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
