A humanitarian gesture by Diplomat Dauda Stanley Babi has brought renewed hope and relief to a student of Gombe State University living with a mobility disability, following the donation of a tricycle to support his movement within the campus.
The tricycle was officially presented by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, to Ahmed Musa Hassan, a 100-level student of the Department of Library and Information Science, who had been facing mobility challenges while navigating the university environment.
Speaking during the presentation, Professor Yauta commended the generosity and compassion demonstrated by Diplomat Dauda Stanley Babi, describing the donation as a timely intervention that would significantly improve the student’s comfort, independence, mobility, and overall academic experience. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting inclusiveness, accessibility, and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities within the university community.
The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that the University had begun discussions aimed at providing additional motorised tricycles for students with mobility disabilities across the campus. According to him, the initiative is designed to establish a sustainable mobility support system that will enable students with physical impairments to participate fully in academic and social activities.
Professor Yauta further directed the Directorate of Advancement and the Public Relations Office to continue engagements with relevant individuals and stakeholders to mobilise support for the project and fast-track its implementation. He explained that the proposed tricycles would remain the property of the University to ensure that other eligible students could benefit from them in the future.
Also speaking, Dr. Zainab Tijjani, who coordinated the delivery of the donation, expressed optimism that the tricycle would ease the student’s movement and encourage more active participation in both academic and social engagements within the university environment.
The initiative forms part of the University’s broader vision of creating a more inclusive, supportive, and conducive learning environment for all students, regardless of physical limitations.
