The Wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has extended her free medical outreach to children living with autism and other special needs in the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency of the state.
The outreach, organised through her You Matter Charity Foundation, was held at Owese Primary School, Kwale, where hundreds of children and their families received free medical attention, medications, wheelchairs, learning aids and other support items.
The intervention is part of a month-long programme that has so far reached more than 740 children across six federal constituencies in Delta State, with millions of naira committed to providing healthcare and support to children with disabilities and ensuring that no child is left behind because of their condition or circumstances.
Speaking at the event, Deaconess Oborevwori said the beneficiaries should not be viewed merely as numbers, but as individuals whose lives, families and experiences reinforce the importance of the initiative.
“These are more than numbers; they are lives, families, and stories that remind us of the purpose behind this work,” she said.
The First Lady explained that the outreach was aimed at restoring dignity and giving every child, regardless of ability, an opportunity to thrive.
She also expressed appreciation to the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme, whom she described as her “sister and support system,” for her consistent support in extending the message of hope to more families.
“Her commitment to ensuring that our message of hope reaches more families is deeply appreciated. I remain grateful to God for the privilege to serve and to be a source of hope to those in need,” she added.
For many parents and caregivers of children with autism and other special needs, the outreach provided an opportunity to access professional medical attention and essential support items free of charge.
The distribution of wheelchairs is expected to improve mobility, while learning aids will support education and medications will provide relief to beneficiaries. Beyond the material assistance, the outreach also conveyed a message of inclusion and dignity to families of children with disabilities: they are seen, valued and they matter.
