Some time ago this year, 5 Persons with Disabilities were among 44 successful scholars who, after a rigorous screening process involving 7500 Nigerian applicants, were awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship.
The Chevening scholars, Dr Ijeoma Nnodim, Barrister Florence Marcus, Mahmud Abdullahi, and Hamza Waziri, recently paid a courtesy visit to Mr. James Lalu, Executive Secretary (ES), National Commission for Persons with Disabilities. Gbenga Ogundare is the fifth PWD recipient on the list though was absent.
The visit was intended to seek the commission’s support for various NGO initiatives of each recipient of the prestigious scholarship.
Dr Nnodim, in a brief introductory speech on behalf of her fellow scholars expressly asked the Commission’s support for various humanitarian projects of their individual NGOs.
Mr Lalu, in response, congratulated them on their scholarship awards and assured of the Commission’s support.
Also present during the visit was Dr Adebukola Adebayo, a PWD alumnus of Chevening.
The Chevening Scholarship is an annual award by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom.
Chevening grants Scholarship awards to individuals with outstanding leadership and influencing skills from around the world, to enable them to experience a period of study in the UK.
Applications are currently on for the 2023/2024 cohort and deadline is November 1st, 2022.
