The Federal Executive Council, presided by Out-going President Muhammadu Buhari has, on Tuesday, approved the ratification of the African Union Protocol on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities made the disclosure through it’s verified Twitter handle and confirmed by the Executive Secretary, NCPWD, James Lalu on Tuesday.
The statement reads “Nigeria remained committed to respecting and upholding international treaties on the rights of Persons with Disabilities.”
Nigeria had, on 13 February 2023, signed the treaty. The treaty will need 15 ramifications to become law. Angola, Burundi, Kenya, Mali and Rwanda have all made the treaty legal in these countries.
