Arik Air has distributed palliatives to some communities in Lagos as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Staff, on Tuesday, helped with the distribution of 400 bags of 10kg rice and 400 bags of 10kg beans to Ewu-Tuntun community in Mafoluku and Orile-Agege local council development area.
Sylvester Egogo, Arik business head for central and west Africa, said it is the company’s way of extending a hand of support to its host communities.
“The situation in the country calls for concern and Arik management is very much aware that the government cannot do everything,” he told journalists.
“We are not also trying to do everything, but supporting residents in various communities within our operations.
“This is just to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic in those communities close to us, and I hope this will meet their needs.
“Airlines have not been working for the past two months now, but we came to empathize with people to support in our own little way and also a way of giving back to the community.”
Egogo said the palliatives were channeled through the leaders of the communities, traditional rulers for effective administration, which he said was well coordinated.
In his remarks, Nathaniel Osho, chairman of Abolaji/Osundeyi CDA in Ewu-Tuntun, Mafoluku, commended Arik Air for the gesture and promised to distribute the food items effectively.
Also, Oladele Akinlabi of Arigbanla Igbomedu in Orile-Agege, commended the airline’s support to the communities, assuring that the food items would be properly distributed.
