APWD, CMAD Collaborate With CityMood Communication To Ensure Inclusion Of PWDs In Society

The Association of Persons with Disabilities (APWD), Badagry chapter in collaboration with Centre for Media Advocacy for the Disabled (CMAD), in their pursuit for inclusion, paid a visit to the CEO of CityMood Communications Mr. Sewhude Akande.

The focus of the meeting was on: advocating for disability rights, ensuring inclusion in the Badagry Social Media Award, including persons with disabilities among awardees, employment for persons with disabilities and including them in programs and activities. This highlights the ongoing efforts to promote equal opportunities and recognition for individuals with disability in the community.

Mr. Sejoro Ekundayo, the chairman of the Association of Persons with Disabilities, Badagry chapter, highlighted a significant milestone in Lagos state. Since 2011, people with disabilities have been included in the law, through the Lagos State special People’s law, ensuring their participation in various programs.

In a commendable move, Sejoro Ekundayo, who is also the Executive Director of Centre for Media Advocacy for the Disabled (CMAD), said the association plans to visit government agencies, Kings/Chiefs and NGOs in Badagry to explore opportunities for collaboration and support.

In response, Mr. Sewhude Akande expressed his unwavering support for the association.

He emphasized their longstanding commitment to the cause and announced that the upcoming edition of the Badagry Social Media Award will include individuals from the association. Furthermore, they will make concerted efforts to involve association members in their social media programs.

Mr. Sewhude emphasized that there would be no discrimination if suitable employment opportunities arise for the disability community. He also expressed his willingness to provide free training in photography for youths with disabilities in Badagry who are eager to learn.

Mr. Kehinde Akewusola, the PRO of the Association of Persons with Disabilities, Badagry chapter expressed his gratitude on behalf of people with disabilities for the warm reception and pledged to work in alignment with the discussed plans to ensure inclusion of people with disabilities.
