- As Sitting Volleyball tournament holds in Netherlands
Last week Thursday, 22 February, 2018, the Nigerian Sitting Volleyball Federation elected Mr. David O. Anyaele, the Executive Director, Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), and South-East Zonal representative at the Siting Volleyball Federation as the Federation President. The free and fair election which took place at the Package B, National Stadium Complex Abuja was conducted by the officials of Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development as part of the elections for seven Para-sports Federations in Nigeria, INN reports
Mr. Anyaele, who is also the executive director of the Amputees Rehabilitation Foundation, in a keenly contested election, defeated Dr. Babatunde Awulenje, General Manager, Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), and Sitting Volleyball Federation, South-west representative.
INN learnt from source that earlier last week, Mr. Anyaele was returned unopposed at the Sitting Volleyball Federation, South-East Zonal Representative election at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, which qualified him as a Board member.
Other Para-Sport Elections which was conducted last week had the following as the elected Presidents, they are: Alhaji Misbahu Didi President, Para-Soccer Federation. While Samuel Onitiju emerged as the Federation’s Vice-President; Queen Uboh emerged as President of the Para-Powerlifting Federation; Amputee Football Federation had Suleiman Isah emerge as its President; Para-Swimming Federation had Sylvester Ikumojoye emerge as its President while Para-Athletics Federation elected Geoffrey Ogu as its President.
INN could not reach Mr Anyeale for his comments about the development as he wasn’t replying messages sent to him.
Meanwhile, the World ParaVolley Board met prior to the assembly and designated the next organiser of their most prestigious tournament, the Sitting Volleyball World Championships, following a presentation made by the Federation. The Netherlands was confirmed, with the host cities and venues still subject to World ParaVolley approval, INN learnt.
“We are pleased to be able to confirm, in principle, the appointment of the Netherlands as the hosts of the 2018 Sitting Volleyball World Championships”, says WPV President Barry Couzner.
“I am sure that I speak for all the members of World ParaVolley when I say that we are excited about the possibilities presented by the event, which will showcase our sport live across the country, as well as provide unprecedented coverage on-line to the watching world.” he concluded.
