3m Lagosians living with disability— Govt

The Lagos state government has disclosed that no fewer than three million residents of the state are living with disabilities.

It also added that at least 600, 000 residents experience significant disabilities within the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Adesina Odeyemi, who disclosed the statistics in an interview with newsmen yesterday at a workshop for teachers, lamented such huge population, could not be left unattended to.

He noted that the population had been a major concern to the state government in order to ameliorate the challenges faced by this special students to integrate them into the society.

Odeyemi said: “You will agree that such huge population cannot be abandoned to their fate and allowed to be a burden to the society.

“This informs the efforts of the Ministry of Education at integrating pupils/students living with disabilities into the society, ingraining in them the skills that give them confidence that they are capable of contributing their quota to national growth.
