COVID-19 & Women With Disabilities – BONews Service To Train WWDs

by Inclusive News Network

Towards improving the responsiveness of humanitarian and health systems in Nigeria to the needs of Women with Disabilities, WWDs, BONews Service is set to train WWDs across the country.

The training is aimed at building the capacity of WWDs to demand for inclusion in the responsiveness of humanitarian and health systems at sub national and national levels across the country.

Speaking about the training, Blessing Oladunjoye, Publisher, BONews Service disclosed that the 2-day online training is essential because all the responses about the COVID-19 intervention have excluded WWDs and such needed to be addresses.
Oladunjoye said, “in a survey carried out by BONews Service, it was revealed that WWDs are being excluded in all the various interventions and communications about COVID-19, and this shows the level of exclusion and discrimination against them.

“One would expect that despite their level of vulnerability to this virus, they would be included in all actions especially regarding the health interventions,” she added.

She disclosed that 37 WWDs have been selected in all states across the country and the Federal Capital Territory with the aim of stepping down the training to their communities and network.

“WWDs need to demand for inclusion, that’s why this training has been set up to empower their voices and enable them position their requests strategically,” she added.

Oladunjoye also noted that after the women have been trained, BONews Service will facilitate a National Advocacy Dialogue where the women can engage directly with relevant stakeholders and policy makers so that adequate changes and results are achieved.

The training is slated to hold on July 8th and 9th 2020.
