An orphanage in Yobe state, the Ya Zarah Orphan Care Foundation, has graduated 16 orphans who lost their parents in the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.
The orphans have been admitted to a private boarding school, El-Kanemi College of Islamic Theology Maiduguri, where they will continue their basic and secondary education with their food and school fees fully paid.
Meanwhile, the second batch of 25 orphans has been admitted to the orphanage, consisting of 15 boys and 10 girls, ages 6-7.
The orphanage, based in Potiskum, Yobe state, was established by a former deputy governor of Yobe state and now Nigeria‘s energy minister, Abubakar Aliyu.
Named after Minister Ya Zarah’s mother, the orphanage provides children with accommodation, food, medical and social care under the supervision of experienced educators and childhood specialists.
For the past five years, the Ya Zarah Orphans Foundation has helped children orphaned as a result of the insurgency in the Northeast and other reasons.
At the graduation ceremony yesterday in Potiskum, the Minister of Power, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ya Zarah Foundation for the Care of Orphans, pointed out that in addition to making sure that orphans receive the care that every child deserves to provide them with free education. is one of the key objectives of the Ya Zara Orphan Care Foundation.
The minister, who was represented on the occasion by Yobe Higher Education Commissioner Muhammed Munkaila, also said plans are underway to build tents and donate them as an endowment to generate income for the sustainability of the Orphanage Home.
“As I indicated during the opening of the home five years ago, this service in the way of Allah is open to the entire community so that we can collectively provide the enabling environment for these orphans to realize their full potential and grow to give back. to society,” added the minister.
The Ya Zarah Orphans Foundation also makes it easy for orphans to spend time with their guardians during the holidays so they can reconnect and bond.
One of the orphans, Ahmad Daye, thanked the minister for the initiatives, which he said helped immensely to alleviate the suffering of orphans in the area.
