There is palpable relief in St. Martins Hospital in Rivers State as staff who had contact with a Covid-19 patient have all tested negative for the virus.

A statement issued by Dr. Martins Nde on behalf of the hospital recalled that on April 20, a patient with normal body temperature was presented at its facility with history, signs, symptoms and laboratory results consistent with resistant malaria.

He said though the patient was admitted, treated and discharged the next day, the hospital was informed by the Rivers State Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC that the patient later tested positive for Covid-19 on April 28.

“On our part, all staff who had some form of contact with the said patient complied with medical protocols, submitted themselves for testing and proceeded on 14 days monitored self isolation and have all tested negative for Covid-19 by the NCDC,” Nde said.

He thanked the Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike and the NCDC for their rapid decontamination of the hospital and all measures taken to contain the spread of the virus.

“As a medical organisation, we restate our commitment to saving lives and providing effective and efficient professional medical services to our esteemed clients, while maintaining all preventive measures against Covid-19 spread as we have done since the onset of the pandemic in line with existing protocols,” he said.
