The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a devastating toll on hundreds of millions of people across the globe.
Not only has the outbreak impacted families and individuals. It crushed economies and businesses, too.
Persons with Disabilities were not left out in the suffering. In fact, they were harder hit owing to restrictions placed on them by society even before the Covid-19 outbreak – besides other factors which limit their options due to the nature of their challenges
The good news however is that through it all, Jibore Impeccable Foundation, a humanitarian organization started some 6 years ago and officially registered with the CAC in 2018, continue to stand out as one organization that remains tirelessly committed to providing solutions to problem facing People with Disabilities.
Over a hundred persons have been empowered through the foundation’s humanitarian commitment.
Jibore Foundation’s reach cut across a number of States in Nigeria : Kwara, Kogi, Oyo, Zamfara, etc. Humanitarian support rendered range from medical, empowerment of various kinds, cash donations , food donations, educational support and many more.
During the covid-19 outbreak over 30 people were fed by the Foundation.
Just recently, in continuation of its good work to reduce negative effects of the pandemic on businesses owned by PWDs, the organization empowered Mrs Ibrahim Zainab, (alias Iya Alate) a spinal cord injury victim on wheelchair. Mrs Zainab is a petty trader dealing in food stuffs and other house hold commodities. Her business collapsed during the lockdown.
On getting news of Jibore foundation’s good works towards PWDs, she reached out to the foundation soliciting assistance to revive her business.
Jibore responded by building and stocking a kiosk stall for her. Now her business is back and booming.
A visibly excited Mrs. Zainab is calling on other well meaning members of society to support the foundation so it can do more for humanity. She also encouraged PWDs to stop begging and bring out their God given potentials as begging will rob them of opportunities to become better persons in society.
At an interview after the kiosk was commissioned, Mrs Joy, Founder of Jibore expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the grace to help humanity. She says she is happy at the project’s success. She especially thanked all who have been supporting the Foundation in one way or the other as the foundation’s projects are been sponsored mainly through personal finance and supports from people who believe in the mission.
In founder’s words: “special appreciation goes to Learnoflix, an educational platform which got impressed with the good work of the Foundation and gave financial assistance so Jibore could do more for humanity. While lauding Learnoflix, Mrs Joy says her foundation’s appreciation knows no limit. She encouraged other organizations to emulate Learnoflix’s good work so Jibore can achieve its aim of touching more PWD lives.
According to the humanitarian, there are many projects at hand and requiring support. For example, there’s a family at Oyate with all its members having various disabilities and struggling to fend for themselves. This family need a care giver to help them with mobility challenges amongst others.
Madam Joy also mentioned the case of 15 years old Taye whose fistula condition caused her to drop out of school. Then there’s blind Jariat whose education needs sponsorship. The foundation has also taken full responsibility for the feeding and care of an abandoned 40 year old named Seyi.
Madam Joy says there are so many projects the foundation wants to embark on. Paramount among them is establishing a special school for variously challenged individuals so they can have access to education in the rural area.
She advised Government on the need for inclusion of people with disabilities in decision making processes which affect them. This, according to her will help them express themselves. She quotes the well known disability cliché: “nothing for us without us, we are part of the society”.
Mrs Joy advocates more schools for special needs in rural areas because majority of these individuals resides there. Such strategic location will give them easier access to education, thus empowering them to become better citizens.
The kiosk project for Mrs. Zainab was commissioned by Mr. I.T. Udom, CEO, Tomsin Computer Services. Other dignitaries at the occasion were Barrister Ahmed from Human Rights Commission, Kwara State, Mr Olusoji Afolabi, Mrs Iyunade Adekola, Miss Damilola, Miss Glory and many others.
In conclusion, Madam Joy reiterates: “We are determined to do more for humanity as God gives us more grace”.
