The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) has flagged off the construction of 500 units of houses in Yobe State for Internally Displaced People in the state.
This is coming just a week after the Commission handed over 1,000 houses at Ngwom in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State to Borno State for onward distribution to IDPs.
The Managing Director, Northeast Development Commission, Mohammed Alkali said the activity is part of the mandate of the Commission to “address developmental challenges in the Northeast and to restore means of livelihood of the people following the over 12 years of insurgency.
The MD announced that 250 houses will be built, adding that 50 houses each will be built in Buni Yadi, Geidam, Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru.
In the area of education, Mr Alkali announced that the commission is undertaking the building of one mega primary school in each of the three senatorial districts of the state.
Other highlights of the commission’s engagement in the state included the inauguration of a molecular laboratory at the Yobe State, teaching hospital and flag-off of the distribution of food items.
Governor Buni expressed gratitude to the NEDC for delivering part of their mandate to the people of the state.
He said the construction of the houses will complement the construction of over 3,000 houses to solve the housing deficit.
