The Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre, Jos, has distributed 100 free wheelchairs to persons with disabilities in Giade Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The outreach, hosted by Dr. Anas Muhammad, was held on Thursday in Giade, where beneficiaries received mobility aids to improve their independence and participation in community life.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Anas said the large turnout highlighted the significant need for mobility support among persons with disabilities in the community. He noted that the number of people requiring wheelchairs far exceeded the available support.
The organisers said access to a wheelchair can enable persons with disabilities to worship, attend school, learn a trade and move freely within their communities, noting that some beneficiaries had previously been confined to their homes due to lack of mobility aids.
“A wheelchair changes lives and restores the future. Mobility is freedom,” the organisation stated.
While 100 persons benefited from the intervention, the group said many others are still in need of wheelchairs and expressed hope of returning to Giade to support more people.
The Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre also appreciated Dr. Anas Muhammad for hosting the outreach and for his commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities.
