100 Persons with Disabilities Receive Free Wheelchairs in Bauchi

by Inclusive News Network

MISАU, Bauchi State — No fewer than 100 persons with disabilities in Misau and Dambam Local Government Areas of Bauchi State have received free wheelchairs in an intervention aimed at improving mobility, independence and access to essential opportunities.

The mobility aids were distributed by the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre, Jos, in collaboration with Hon. Sabo Ahmed Bapayo, during an outreach programme held on Tuesday in Misau.

Fifty wheelchairs were presented to beneficiaries in each of the two local government areas, providing much-needed mobility support to persons who may otherwise face significant challenges moving around their communities and accessing basic services.

Despite the 34°C heat, beneficiaries turned out for the distribution and expressed appreciation for the support, describing the wheelchairs as a major relief that would enable them to move around more independently.

The organisers said the intervention was designed not only to provide mobility aids but also to help restore dignity and create greater opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in education, healthcare, economic activities and community life.

They emphasised that access to appropriate mobility devices remains critical to disability inclusion, noting that a wheelchair can significantly improve a person’s ability to live independently and participate fully in society.

“A wheelchair changes lives and restores the future. Mobility is freedom,” one of the organisers stated.

The organisers also expressed hope that similar interventions would reach more persons with disabilities who require assistive devices to overcome mobility barriers and improve their quality of life.
