‘You have good ideas for Disability community in Nigeria,’ US Lauds Lalu

Led by Julie Mckay, the Cultural Affairs Department of the United States of America embassy in Nigeria has met with the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu, npom in his office at the Commission.

The US team and the Executive Secretary discussed on accessibility for Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria and inclusivity of women with disabilities in the education sector.

Mckay during the fruitful discussion commended the Executive Secretary for being able to make the NCPWD building accessible which she tagged inspirational.

In a statement disclosed by Saleh Farouq Gagarawa, Head New Media, NCPWD, Mckay further expressed their interest to work with the Executive Secretary and his team emphasizing that Mr. James David Lalu has made giant strides but there is still a lot to be done for the disability community in Nigeria.

Addressing the delegation, Mr. James Lalu maintained his readiness to develop accessibility curriculum for university students in Nigeria.

He further detailed his passion towards having a full bachelor’s degree program on accessibility so that there will be a standard method of construction in Nigeria.

“My dream is to see a university young graduates becoming an accessibility consultant,’’ he said.

He lamented the challenges of inaccessibility of financial institutions most especially the banks mobile applications.

‘’Yes, there is a lot to be done but we don’t look at how bulky the work is. Our passion for attaining inclusivity of Persons With Disabilities and making the country accessibility friendly is what keeps us going.’’ Lalu added.

Expressing her sincere appreciation to the Executive Secretary for having them in his office, Julie Mckay maintained that Lalu has good ideas for the disability community in Nigeria.
