The Rotary Club of Abuja, Kubwa, has been lauded by the management of JKS Orphanage Home for Children with Special Needs in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for its notable humanitarian contributions during the festive season.

As part of its two-in-one community service initiative, the club donated limb-assisting equipment and essential supplies to support children with disabilities. The event also featured a free medical outreach for the local community, marking a significant gesture of compassion and care.

Led by the club president, Olayemi Idowu, the outreach commenced with free health check-ups in collaboration with Street Love Alliance. Beneficiaries received medical care, including malaria treatment and monitoring of blood sugar and blood pressure levels, which were met with heartfelt gratitude.

Following the outreach, Idowu and fellow Rotarians visited the JKS Orphanage Home. They delivered items such as wheelchairs, play mats, a first aid box, and other vital materials to improve the quality of life for the children and their caregivers.

Speaking on the occasion, Nifemi Ajileye, the orphanage’s proprietress, expressed her deep appreciation for the donations. She highlighted the immense challenges involved in caring for children with special needs, many of whom face complex medical conditions such as autism and cerebral palsy.

Ajileye recounted the harrowing circumstances under which many children were rescued, including cases of abandonment in hospitals or unsafe locations. “One child was left in a hospital kitchen by his mother, while another was saved from a mentally ill mother enduring prolonged labor,” she said, underscoring the critical nature of the orphanage’s work.

The caregivers, touched by the club’s support, offered heartfelt prayers for the Rotarians. Rotarian Obas Ekeinde, commending the caregivers’ dedication, remarked, “This is where true charity begins. The effort it takes to care for even one child with disabilities is immense, let alone a large number. Your work is nothing short of heroic.”

Ekeinde also extended empathy to parents who struggle with the responsibilities of raising children with special needs, while expressing admiration for the caregivers who have taken on such monumental tasks.

Club president Olayemi Idowu reiterated Rotary’s commitment to uplifting underserved communities, emphasizing the organization’s mission to bring smiles to those in need. “This support is our humble contribution, and we encourage you to use it in the best way possible. Your efforts are deeply valued, and we commend you for all you do for humanity,” she said.

The initiative not only brought festive cheer to the children but also reinforced the Rotary Club’s ideals of service and community development.
