The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has distributed food items to persons with disabilities (PWDs), widows and other vulnerable groups in Jigawa State as part of its Social Investment Programme (SIP), while launching the Green Nigeria Challenge to promote environmental sustainability across the country.
The initiative, the pet project of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is designed to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration through targeted humanitarian and social intervention programmes. The newly launched Green Nigeria Challenge encourages households, communities and young Nigerians to embrace tree planting, environmental sanitation and green innovation.
According to a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media and ICT in the Office of the Vice President, Mrs. Kwapchi-Bata Hamman, the food outreach programme has now reached 26 states, providing relief and renewed hope to thousands of vulnerable Nigerians. The symbolic distribution of the food items took place in Dutse, where the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, represented the First Lady.
Speaking at the event, Senator Tinubu announced that Ondo State would be the next beneficiary of the food intervention programme. She reaffirmed the Renewed Hope Initiative’s commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind in the pursuit of inclusive development and shared prosperity.
“The Renewed Hope Initiative remains steadfast in its mission to provide a safety net for those most in need, particularly women, children and vulnerable groups,” the First Lady said through Hajiya Shettima.
She explained that the initiative was established to support vulnerable Nigerians through impactful humanitarian programmes and disclosed that the food outreach programme is funded by the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) and another donor who chose to remain anonymous.
Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State commended the intervention, describing it as timely and consistent with his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable residents. He noted that the support aligns with the state’s development agenda aimed at addressing the needs of disadvantaged groups and improving their quality of life.
