Abuja – RedAid Nigeria has pledged its support to the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) in strengthening disability data generation and strategic planning to advance disability inclusion across Nigeria.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by representatives of RedAid Nigeria to the headquarters of the Commission in Abuja, where they were received by the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan.
Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Gufwan commended RedAid Nigeria for the visit and its willingness to collaborate with the Commission in advancing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities. He reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to ensure the collection of accurate and reliable disability data nationwide through the Nigeria Disability Information Management System (NDIMS), in partnership with relevant government agencies and stakeholders.
According to the Executive Secretary, credible disability data remains essential for evidence-based planning, policy formulation and the effective implementation of inclusive programmes that address the needs and aspirations of persons with disabilities across the country.
On behalf of RedAid Nigeria, Ms. Precious applauded the Commission’s efforts in promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities. She described the ongoing development of the Nigeria Disability Information Management System as a strategic initiative that would improve access to credible disability data for effective planning and service delivery.
She also pledged RedAid Nigeria’s support for the successful rollout of NDIMS and expressed the organisation’s readiness to assist in the review of the Commission’s Five-Year Strategic Plan, noting that the current strategic document is due for review this year.
The meeting ended with both organisations reaffirming their commitment to deepening collaboration in disability data management, strategic planning and the promotion of disability-inclusive development in Nigeria.
