PWDs Urge Kano Governor to Champion Inclusivity Through Ramadan Welfare, Mass Weddings for PWDs

by Inclusive News Network

With the arrival of Ramadan, concerns are mounting over the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State. Advocates are calling on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to take proactive steps in ensuring that PWDs are not left behind during this sacred period.

Highlighting the difficulties faced by PWDs in securing food, medical care, and economic opportunities, the group is urging the government to channel resources into programs that provide direct support to PWDs across the state’s 44 local government areas. Their appeal is rooted in the belief that no citizen should struggle to meet their basic needs, especially during Ramadan.

Beyond welfare, the advocates are also pushing for a groundbreaking initiative: the inclusion of PWDs in the state’s mass wedding program following Eid-el-Fitr. This initiative is not just about marriage; it is about breaking societal barriers, fostering inclusion, and upholding the rights of PWDs to family life. By enabling young PWDs to marry, the program will challenge stigma and create a more supportive and accepting society.

Previous mass wedding initiatives in Kano have successfully addressed financial burdens on families and tackled social challenges related to marriage. Advocates are now urging the government to build on this legacy by ensuring that PWDs receive equitable opportunities in this initiative. They are calling for dedicated funding, logistical support, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to make these programs a reality.

As Ramadan draws near, prioritizing the well-being of all citizens, particularly PWDs, will be a powerful statement of the government’s commitment to social equity and inclusion. With the right support, Kano State can set a national example of compassion, inclusivity, and progress.
