Osun State Provides Free Corrective Glasses to Over 42,000 Visually Impaired Students

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced that more than 42,000 pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools with visual impairments have received free corrective eyeglasses from the state government.

Speaking at a symbolic presentation event in Osogbo, the governor emphasized that the initiative aims to support students in achieving their academic and personal goals, which could otherwise be hindered by vision problems.

Out of 345,000 students screened across the state, those diagnosed with visual issues were provided with corrective glasses, essential medications, and, where necessary, surgical treatments. Governor Adeleke highlighted that this is only the pilot phase, starting with public schools, with plans to extend the program to private institutions to ensure no child is left behind.

The event also marked the unveiling of new, multi-million-naira medical equipment for government hospitals under the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS), aimed at enhancing healthcare services for all enrollees.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the health sector, citing ongoing renovations in 200 of 332 primary health centers, free health insurance for over 25,000 pensioners, and specialized support for 10,000 people living with disabilities, including assistive devices like wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, and ultraviolet creams.
