Okoh Kerry Foundation urges Delta Govt to Prioritize Development of Deaf Sports

Okoh Kerry Foundation has called on Delta state government and ministry of sports development to prioritize the development of Deaf Sports in the state.

The foundation made the call in a novelty football match organised by the foundation in Agbor, Delta State over the weekend to promote sports development for deaf community in the state.

INN reports that both teams received free football jerseys, balls, transportation supports and an award of ₦200,000 to the winners.

In an interview with Inclusive News Network, the CEO of the Foundation, Mr Okoh Kerry said developing deaf sports can play integral part in bringing development to Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.

He admitted that he had developed passion for sports since childhood. He added that deaf athletes deserve the chance to showcase their inherent talents through sports.

According to him, “While hearing and Nigerian athletes couldn’t secure any silverware for Nigeria in some International competitions in the past, athletes with disabilities have done extraordinary jobs in bringing consolation silverware for Nigeria. This shows that we have so many hidden talents in these persons that should be utilised and exploited.

He called on Delta state ministry of sports development to prioritize deaf sports and utilize their talents for state and national development.

Speaking on behalf of both teams, one of the players of Delta State Deaf Football, Emmanuel Oyibo thanked for Foundation for their support. He called on government and other NGOs to support the development of Deaf Sports so that they to can be globally competitive.

INN reports that Edo State Deaf Football defeated Delta State Deaf Football 3-0 to win the ₦200,000 prize. Two goals from Sani Umoru and a goal from Ukeme Williams was enough to secure the needed win.
