NYSC 2019: Key Information for People with Disabilities (PWD) by Raji Ade Oba (RAJ COMMUNICATIONS)

by Sejoro Ekundayo

Lack of awareness of the happenings in the social environment, including other potentially lifesaving information in time of emergency or otherwise is one the problems we encounter as people with disabilities. There is no doubt about that. Deaf and hard of hearing people are particularly more challenged in this regards.

We need information. The right information. The right time. The right season.

Why? Information is the oxygen of life. When you are learning and retaining relevant information in your environment, you are living and growing. If we aren’t informed, we’ll be deformed. But we don’t want to experience another deformation because we are all living with one unique form of disability.

If you are a recent graduate in one of Nigeria’s tertiary institution, be informed that it is time for you to be called up to serve the country. Service isn’t just about putting on those set of white and khaki stuff, boots and what have you. No. that’s besides the main thing. There’s real work to be done there in the camp and it is very important for you to learn about preparedness stuff for camp. Including accommodation, screening, documents you will need, online registration, as well as the culture and the things that you will need to take to camp. Then, in the next article, we discuss behaviours appropriate I camp.

You can just get one set of white shirt and a short for yourself In case you aren’t given your size which is very possible. Meanwhile you won’t need the whites again after camp. Spend wisely (see article on attitudes to be adopted while in camp).
NYSC ZONINGS
It’s no longer new news that the new policy of the NYSC which started from 2016 Batch A orientation course now allows every corps member to choose 4 States of their choices to serve their father land of which 1 of the chosen 4 states would be selected at random by the NYSC management.
You will be asked to choose the state of your choice, but it must be a state outside your geopolitical zone. So you can check out this for you to know where you can serve and where you are free to choose. If your own state falls under southeast, it simply means that you can’t serve in southeast. This will guide you on what to do.

South East-5 States =(Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo).

South South-6 States=(Akwa-ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Rivers).

South West-6 States=(Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo).
