NWD sensitises desk officers on data collection and utilization gaps on GBV

The Network of Women with Disabilities has sensitised desk officers in situation rooms from Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Network of Women with Disabilities from the six spotlight states of UN Women to address data collection and utilization gaps on gender-based violence against women and girls with disabilities.

The two-day event held on 10-11 November at jasmine hotel, Abuja had 70% persons with Disabilities in attendance.

Network of Women with Disabilities (NWD) said although, there are no disaggregated data on Persons with Disability, the Data Manager from Federal Ministry of Women Affairs (FMWA), Mr. Sunday Agbabiaka, has promised to include persons with disabilities in the next review of the National Dashboard on SGBV.

The group noted that it will conduct awareness session focus on addressing data collection and utilization gaps for 30 women and girls with disabilities in each state.

It will also train more desk officers across the 36 states. And retraining of training officers to continue to build capacity.

The group called for collaboration and networking between service providers on referral of cases. Diversification of the fronts where SGBV are fought against. Involving all stakeholders in the fight.

They also seek constant sensitization and training of Women on issues of SRHR.

Other relevant issues surrounding Gender-based violence against women with girls with disabilities discussed at the event include, understanding violence against women and girls with disability, concept and institutional frameworks, understanding referral pathways for survivors with Disabilities, experience sharing on GBV, presentation of National Data tool for reporting GBV cases, management of Data/GBV information among other issues.

Among speakers and facilitators who graced the occasion were Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Spotlight Initiative and Network of Persons with Disability, Mrs. Funke Oladipo (Director, Gender Development FMWA), Janet Alabede (Gender Inclusion Officer NWD), Rose Daniel (Gender Inclusion Officer NWD), Mr. Sunday Agbabiaka (Data Manager GBV FMWA).
