NEDC, Bauchi Agency Empower 100 PWDs with ₦44 Million to Tackle Street Begging

In a move to curb street begging and promote economic self-reliance, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), in partnership with the Bauchi State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, has empowered 100 persons with disabilities (PWDs) with vocational skills and ₦44 million in start-up capital.

Speaking at the event, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by the Head of Civil Service, Barr. Muhammad Sani Umar, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to disability inclusion and welfare. He noted that the initiative goes beyond training—it’s a sustainable strategy to restore dignity and provide lasting solutions to poverty among PWDs.

Umar also revealed that persons with special needs who applied for the state’s 2025 recruitment exercise will be considered for inclusion.

NEDC’s Assistant Manager for Logistics and Stabilisation, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, reiterated the commission’s resolve to support vulnerable groups through skill-building and stabilisation efforts.

Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Brisca Joram Aaron, praised the governor’s unwavering support and urged bene lookficiaries to use their skills to impact their communities positively.
