NCPWD Partners with Nigerian Military; Seeks Assistive Devices for War Victims

by Inclusive News Network

The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities (NCPWD), Chief Ayuba Gufwan, recently led the Commission’s management team in Abuja to pursue collaborative efforts with the Nigerian military.

This partnership arose from the growing demand for the establishment of indigenous manufacturing of prosthetics and other assistive devices, especially for war veterans who have lost body parts during combat missions both within and outside the country.

Chief Gufwan expressed his gratitude to the military for their continued efforts in combating insurgency and addressing other security challenges in Nigeria.

“I want to sincerely appreciate our gallant soldiers for dedicating their lives to securing the country from external aggression, banditry, and kidnappings in our land,” he said.

In response, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, assured that the Defence Headquarters is fully prepared to mobilize support for the needs of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities.

“I am aware of the conditions and needs of Persons with Disabilities, especially some of our soldiers who have suffered limb injuries, amputations, or other forms of physical impairment in the line of duty,” he added.

The General also mentioned that, in response to this need, his office has already initiated the production of prosthetics in Minna, Niger State, to support affected soldiers and help restore their hope for a better life.

He further expressed his intention to expand the rehabilitation centers to Abuja to increase the production rate and meet growing public demand.

General Musa then requested the Commission’s expertise in ensuring that the assistive devices are designed to meet the specific needs and purposes of the intended users.
