The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has received a significant boost in its efforts to promote inclusivity and enhance the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria.

This bold commitment was demonstrated during a celebration held at the Rehabilitation Centre, Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State. The Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, and his team of directors received the South West Zonal Office building from the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Seyi Makinde.

Hon. Gufwan expressed deep gratitude to the Oyo State Government for its unwavering commitment to promoting inclusivity and enhancing the welfare of PWDs. He acknowledged this milestone as a significant step toward creating a more inclusive society.

“The establishment of zonal offices in the six geopolitical zones will help us serve all PWDs more effectively, making Nigeria more inclusive and offering equal opportunities for everyone to thrive regardless of their disabilities,” said Gufwan.

The Director General of the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Barrister Adekanmbi Ayodele, commended the Oyo State Governor for providing the office space and lauded the Executive Secretary of NCPWD for the initiative to establish zonal offices.

Representing the Executive Governor, the Director General of the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Barrister Adekanmbi Ayodele, reiterated the state government’s commitment to inclusivity and the welfare of PWDs in the state. He assured all Persons with Disabilities that the administration has been a strong advocate for their inclusion in all government affairs. “As a government agency, we ensure that all MDAs allocate 5% of job opportunities to PWDs as stipulated by the Disability Act. It is in the same spirit of inclusiveness that I am using my office as the DG to ensure that all disability clusters are represented in government affairs, and no one is left behind,” he said.

The event’s highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the NCPWD and the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, executed by the Executive Secretary and the Director General.

The ceremony was attended by top management staff of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the Executive Secretaries of all the South West states, heads of all disability clusters in Oyo State, top government officials from Oyo State, and other stakeholders passionate about advancing the rights and welfare of Persons with Disabilities.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Oguntade A., the Human Resource Manager of NCPWD, appreciated the Executive Secretary for his efforts in establishing zonal offices in the six geopolitical zones and the Director General for securing the office space.

“It’s indeed a great achievement, and we thank Almighty Allah for the development and progress so far. We look forward to making a positive impact in the lives of all PWDs across the country,” she said.
