The Lagos State Government has once again reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to disability inclusion and empowerment, as it joined key stakeholders to mark the official launch of the Codisa Foundation—an emerging nonprofit committed to advancing the rights, welfare, and dignity of persons with disabilities.
The launch event, held on Thursday, April 24, 2024, at Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, brought together dignitaries, disability rights advocates, and members of the disability community. Representing the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, was the General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, who delivered the Governor’s goodwill message.
In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded the founders and partners of the Codisa Foundation for their visionary efforts, describing the organization as “a beacon of hope and a vital ally” in building a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate society.
The Governor reiterated that disability inclusion remains a core pillar of the State’s THEMES+ development agenda. Through LASODA’s active interventions, the government has rolled out initiatives such as financial empowerment programs, provision of assistive devices, skills acquisition schemes, and legal protections tailored to improve the lives of persons with disabilities.
“The Codisa Foundation’s emphasis on advocacy, capacity building, and social integration strongly complements our vision for an inclusive Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu stated. “We wholeheartedly support their mission to dismantle societal barriers, challenge harmful stereotypes, and cultivate a society where every individual has the opportunity to aspire, grow, and succeed.”
He further reaffirmed LASODA’s commitment to collaborating with organizations like the Codisa Foundation to expand the reach and effectiveness of disability-focused policies and interventions across the State.
