Yakubu Nazir Abdulhakeem, the newly appointed Executive Secretary, Kogi State Office for Disability Affairs on Tuesday, 3 September, 2024 received letter of appointment on his new role.
INN reports that Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo appointed a Spinal Cord Injury Survivor, Yakubu Nazir Abdulhakeem as the new Executive Secretary, on 19th August, 2024 alongside other appointments.
Speaking shortly after receiving the letter on Tuesday, Abdulhakeem expressed gratitude to governor Ododo for appointing him as the Executive Secretary of the Disability Affairs office.
Abdulhakeem said, “this appointment is not only an honour but also a significant opportunity to advocate for the rights and needs of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in our state. I am committed to working diligently to ensure that our voices are heard and our concerns addressed.
He also extended appreciation to the accountant general of Kogi State, Chief Dr. Habibat Oyiza Tijjani for her dedication towards ensuring PWDs experience meaningful change in the community.
Abdulhakeem further appeals to fellow PWD members to distance themselves from street begging.
“Our disabilities do not define our abilities. We have the potential to contribute positively to society, and I believe that His Excellency is committed to fully engaging us in his policies. It is crucial that we embrace our strengths and seek opportunities that uplift us rather than diminish our dignity.”
INN also reports that Abdulhakeem was accomplished by members of PWDs to the Permanent Secretary to the Kogi State Secretary Office on behalf of Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, while receiving the letter.
