The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered a case of impersonation involving a blind undergraduate who attempted to sit for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on behalf of another visually impaired candidate.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during a press conference on Friday in Abuja. He expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as a reflection of the desperate measures some individuals take to gain admission into tertiary institutions.
Despite JAMB’s efforts to support visually impaired candidates—including full registration refunds, transportation, accommodation, and feeding—the Registrar lamented that impersonation still occurred within this group.
“For the 2025 UTME, 501 blind candidates were examined across 11 centres under the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG). Unfortunately, one of them was involved in a case of impersonation by engaging another blind undergraduate to write the exam for him,” Oloyede stated.
This revelation follows a similar incident in 2024, when a father was arrested for impersonating his son during the UTME.
