IBSA Blind Football Championship: Host Nigeria Edges Out Cameroon in First International Debut As Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Performs Kickoff

The Star Eagles of Nigeria yesterday, 23 November recorded their first win in International blind Football championship as they beat Cameroon 2:1 in the opening match of the 2019 IBSA Blind Football Championship in Enugu State. This was the first time Nigeria’s Star Eagles ever played in such competitive championship.

Nigeria’s group stage opponents, Ivory Coast blind football team defeated debutants Libya 2:0 in the second match of the ongoing championship. In group B, African champions Morocco got an emphatic win over Mali 5-2 while Bronze medalists Egypt put five past debutants Niger to win 5-0.

Star Eagles as they are called will play Libya by 09:00am today while 2015 runners-up, Cameroon are expected to play Ivory Coast immediate after the first match.

The winners of the tournament will qualify for the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Meanwhile, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi took the ceremonial kick-off at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium in Enugu State.

Bina Foundation for People with Special Needs hosts the fourth version of the IBSA Blind Football African Championships from 22nd November to 1st December. 2019.
