Gombe Launches Local Government Disability Inclusion Framework

by Inclusive News Network

A new chapter in inclusive governance has begun in Gombe State with the formal launch of the Local Government Disability Inclusion Framework—an initiative led by the Hope Inspired Foundation for Women and Youth with Disabilities.

The launch event, held in Gombe, gathered key stakeholders from across sectors, all unified by a shared goal: to promote the rights and full participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at the grassroots level. Among the dignitaries present were the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Hon. Shehu Yarima Abdullahi; a representative of the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government; leaders of the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD); traditional rulers; civil society groups; media representatives; and numerous development partners.

The Framework itself is a forward-thinking policy document designed to ensure that PWDs are actively included in decision-making processes, governance, and development initiatives across Gombe’s 11 Local Government Areas. It is grounded in both national and international standards, including the National Disability Act and the Gombe State Disability Law, signed into effect on December 23, 2024, by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (CON), who also chairs the Northern Governors Forum.

Governor Yahaya’s administration continues to set a powerful example of political will and inclusive leadership. This landmark initiative not only underscores Gombe’s commitment to disability rights—it also places the state as a national leader in inclusive governance.

As implementation begins, the GSCPWD has pledged to work in close collaboration with relevant government bodies and local authorities to bring the Framework’s vision into reality and make Gombe State a place where everyone, regardless of ability, has a voice and a seat at the table.
