Lafia – Following the success of its initial outreach in Plateau State, Deafzion Foundation has extended its flagship 1Life Outreach Project to rural communities in Nasarawa State, offering renewed hope to students with disabilities who face daily challenges of stigma, isolation, and lack of access to quality education.
The expansion comes after the foundation reached over 100 students and five educators in Plateau, uncovering disturbing realities: nearly 80 percent of children with disabilities in these areas experience peer rejection, molestation, and deep-rooted discrimination.
Determined to make a difference, Deafzion Foundation implemented a series of impactful interventions in Nasarawa. These included personalized empowerment conversations and mental health sessions aimed at helping students process trauma, regain confidence, and build a stronger sense of self-worth. Career and leadership mentorship also inspired the students to dream beyond their limitations and explore future aspirations.
To further support their academic growth, the foundation distributed exercise books and learning materials designed to spark creativity and encourage classroom participation. The results were transformative. Students who had once been silent and withdrawn began raising their hands, asking questions, and sharing ideas openly.
The outreach also created a ripple effect within the community. Several teachers and local residents expressed interest in learning more about inclusive education and requested additional training. Meanwhile, students who once felt defined by their disabilities began to envision careers in teaching, entrepreneurship, and information technology.
The initiative aligns with global efforts to create inclusive, equitable, and sustainable futures. By addressing education, mental health, career development, and social integration, Deafzion Foundation is reinforcing the vision of a society where no child is left behind.
