Disability Commission, Sightsavers Launch Training to Boost Staff Capacity and Professionalism

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has partnered with Sightsavers Nigeria to organize a capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening staff efficiency, ethics, and service delivery to over 35.5 million Nigerians with disabilities.

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), in collaboration with Sightsavers Nigeria, has commenced a comprehensive capacity-building workshop to enhance staff skills and professionalism.

The program focuses on improving institutional efficiency, promoting ethical standards, and ensuring inclusive service delivery in line with the Commission’s mandate.

Speaking at the opening session, Executive Secretary Hon. Ayuba Gufwan urged staff to take the training seriously, emphasizing the Commission’s critical role in safeguarding the rights of over 35.5 million Nigerians with disabilities.

“Efficiency, ethics, and professionalism are not optional—they are our duty. Every action we take directly impacts lives,” he said, while appreciating Sightsavers for its unwavering support.

Mrs. Esther Bature, Country Advocacy Coordinator at Sightsavers Nigeria, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to strengthening institutions that serve persons with disabilities, describing the initiative as an investment in inclusion.

Dr. Adebayo Bukola, Technical Assistant to the Executive Secretary, called the workshop a transformational opportunity, adding that staff must embrace change to improve societal perception of disability inclusion.

The training will cover ethics, accountability, disability rights, leadership, and organizational efficiency.
