Disability Commission Distributes Food Items, Cash Support to PWDs in Nasarawa

by Inclusive News Network

Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Nasarawa State have received food items and financial support from the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission (NSDRC) as part of ongoing efforts to provide relief to vulnerable groups in the state.

The pioneer Executive Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Saleh Barde Keana, led the distribution of bags of garri and transportation stipends to beneficiaries during an outreach aimed at supporting persons with disabilities facing economic challenges.

Speaking at the event, Barde explained that he represented Persons With Disabilities at a programme held on March 4, 2026, organized by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA), where food items were distributed to vulnerable populations. He noted that he received the items on behalf of PWDs in the state to ensure they were not left out of the intervention.

The NSDRC Chairman further disclosed that although the Commission had planned to provide additional cash support alongside the food items, the expected funds were not secured. He added that he decided to provide transportation stipends to beneficiaries from personal arrangements, stressing that it would not be fair to invite persons with disabilities from various locations without supporting their movement.

The Director General of NASEMA, Barrister Akwash, represented by the Director of Human Resources and Supply, commended the leadership of the NSDRC for its transparency and commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities. He encouraged the Commission to sustain the initiative, noting that more interventions for vulnerable groups are expected in the future.

In total, more than 300 bags of food items were distributed to Persons With Disabilities across Nasarawa State, providing relief to many beneficiaries amid prevailing economic difficulties.
