The Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission (NSDRC), Hon. Saleh Barde Keana, has facilitated the permanent employment of a Deaf woman, Miss Zulai Ibrahim, with the Nasarawa State High Court of Justice as part of ongoing efforts to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities in public service.
Speaking during the presentation of the appointment letter to Miss Ibrahim at the Commission’s office in Lafia on Tuesday, Hon. Keana said the employment was in line with the Commission’s mandate to ensure that persons with disabilities are represented across all sectors of governance.
He explained that the appointment also reflects the implementation of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule’s directive mandating Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to reserve at least five per cent of employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The NSDRC Chairman congratulated Miss Ibrahim on her appointment and encouraged her to demonstrate diligence, commitment and professionalism in her new role.
He urged her to serve as a worthy ambassador of the disability community and justify the confidence reposed in her through excellent service.
Keana reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to advancing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities across Nasarawa State.
He pledged that the Commission would continue to engage government institutions through advocacy, monitoring and strategic partnerships to ensure full implementation of disability inclusion policies and the protection of the rights and privileges of persons with disabilities.
